The key to mini-blinds is dusting them often. Something I loathe to do so then I am forced to resort to drastic measures...actually cleaning them.
So learn from my mistakes and here is how to take care of your mini blinds to keep the heavy duty cleaning to a minimum.
First of all this cleaning is for metal blinds. If you have wood or fabric you will need to check with your manufacturer’s directions although I’m sure cleaner free dusting would be alright.
Mini-Blind Upkeep
- Add them to your regular dusting routine which should take place about weekly.
- If you’re using one of those disposable dusters spray with a little Endust or other dusting spray. This picks up A LOT of dust so be prepared to toss the little thingy when done.
- For a littler heavier cleaning don cotton gloves that have been dipped into and wrung out from a mild dishsoap solution. Use your fingers to wipe on each side of your blind slats.
- If you’ve been neglecting them like me and have waited until they are absolutely caked with gunk it’s time to take your blinds down and give them a good washing. If it’s a sunny day you can take them out to your driveway and laying them down on some old towels or some other such cloth scrub away (gently) gook and grime then hose off or tada! Buy some MiniMaids®
(I plan to) and hang them in your shower to give your blinds a good scrubbing. Again use a mild dishsoap solution for this.
